Three Minutes Thesis Competition
Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an internationnally recognized competition for thesis-based graduate students.
The principle
Participants present their scholarly and creative activity and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less. The challenge is to present complex research in an accessible and compelling way with the assistance of only one static slide. FESP organises Université Laval's competition. The winner of the competition will represent Université Laval at the regional 3MT competition.
CAGS competition
The first leg of the competition is held at faculty's level. Finalists are invited to compette at the Université Laval's level. Université Laval's Champion will go and represent the establishment at the Eastern Canada competition. Three finalists of the regional competition will advance to the 3MT National competition.
NAGS competition
The winner of the Université Laval 1st Prize will also participate in the competition that will take place at the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS) annual meeting.
Organization of faculty competitions
For the English-speaking final, the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies invites each faculty to submit a ULaval candidate who has been enrolled or who has been enrolled in a Master or a PhD research program with a thesis during the current academic year (September 2026 to August 2027). The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies encourages faculties to hold a faculty final and to read the eligibility rules for the competition on the CAGS website.
The deadline to send the FESP the name and contact information for the candidate is March 12, 2027.
Get Ready for the Contests
Eligible participants may enter either contest or both. The FESP offers free workshops to help you develop your science communication skills and prepare your presentation.
